«On the way»
Gegründet 1988 von Hans Werner Henze, ist die Münchener Biennale das weltweit führende Uraufführungsfestival für gegenwärtiges Musiktheater. Seit 2016 und noch bis 2024 verantworten die Komponisten Daniel Ott und Manos Tsangaris das Programm des vom Kulturreferat der Landeshauptstadt München veranstalteten Festivals.
Die Menschheit ist mehr als je zuvor unterwegs und die Welt um uns herum unaufhaltsam im Wandel. Mit dem Motto „On the way“ macht die Münchener Biennale 2024 die Bewegung selbst zum Thema. Elf Produktionen werden Wege aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven beleuchten. Wege, die Menschen gehen, Wege, die die Welt geht: in die Hitze, ins Globale, ins Digitale, zu Fuß oder im Kopf.

- 11 Produktionen mit Uraufführungen von Lucia Ronchetti, Kai Kobayashi, Andreas Eduardo Frank/Patrick Frank, Mithatcan Öcal, Du Yun, Yiran Zhao, Ted Hearne/Tamara Miller, Carlos Gutiérrez Quiroga, Eve Georges, Jiro Yoshioka, Nico Sauer, Alvin Curran
- Koproduktionen mit Opernhäusern: Theater Basel, Staatstheater Braunschweig, Staatstheater Kassel, Deutsche Oper Berlin
- Kooperationen im öffentlichen Raum mit freien Musiktheaterkompanien: Het Geluid (NL), Novoflot (D), Oblivia (FIN)
- Partizipations- und Kooperationsprojekt mit der Münchner Volkshochschule sowie der Hochschule für Musik und Theater München

«On the way»
Founded in 1988 by Hans Werner Henze, the Munich Biennale is the world’s leading festival for contemporary music theatre premieres. Since 2016, and until 2024, composers Daniel Ott and Manos Tsangaris have been responsible for the programme of the festival, which is organised by the Department of Culture of the City of Munich.
Humanity is on the move more than ever before, and the world around us is inexorably changing. Under the motto „On the way,“ the Munich Biennale 2024 places the focus on movement itself. Eleven productions illuminate paths from different perspectives; paths taken by people, by the world, into heat, into global or digital contexts, on foot or in the mind.
